Botox Aftercare – What Should You Know

The effects of Botox can be really amazing – making you look younger and feel fantastic. These cosmetic treatments are a safe and effective way to fight wrinkles, fine lines, crow’s feet, and drooping mouth corners. Just as important as the procedure is Botox aftercare – what should you know…

At a trusted clinic such as Luxe Skin, you’ll get a complimentary consultation before you have your treatment – Dr Q will make sure you receive the highest quality of care to meet your needs. During the procedure, a small amount of liquid is injected into the face muscles using a very fine needle. You may feel a slight sensation but very little discomfort. The treatment takes about 15 minutes to complete – there may be slight swelling and possible bruising.

It can take up to a week for the full effects to appear and they can last up to four months – depending on the individual. After this time treated areas may start to look as they did before – this indicates you need a repeat treatment which actually makes the effects last even longer.

Post-treatment recovery is straightforward as the risks connected are minimal but take a look at some suggestions to help ensure a fast and painless recovery:

What not to do after Botox

  • Don’t rub your face or have any link of face massage for at least 24 hours afterwards
  • Avoid sleeping on your front as you may accidentally move the Botox around during the night
  • Keep away from alcohol and strong painkillers which may thin the blood and increase fluid retention
  • Steer clear of bending down or doing any form of strenuous exercise immediately afterwards
  • Pass up on the sauna where your body will be subjected to increased levels of heat
  • Don’t apply make-up for at least four hours after having treatment
  • Avoid wearing hats or headbands
  • Don’t take an aeroplane flight for 24-48 hours afterwards as changes in air pressure can affect the results

What to do after Botox

To help settle the Botox into the injected muscles and decrease the risk of moving it you can gently exercise the treated areas by raising your eyebrows or smiling to keep from feeling stiff. You can also:

  • Apply an ice pack very gently to the treated area to help reduce swelling
  • Take Paracetamol for mild pain relief as this is the safest option
  • Ask your doctor for an alternative numbing cream if needed
  • Drive as the treatment won’t affect your ability to do so
  • Attend the clinic for a check-up session a few weeks after to make sure the treatment has been successful

Possible Side Effects

There are some possible side effects that you should be aware of but these are rare, particularly if your treatment is carried out by a highly trained and fully qualified cosmetic doctor:

  • Bruising and swelling at the injection site
  • Nausea, headache, and flu-like symptoms
  • Occasional numbness
  • Visual disturbances
  • Drooping of the eyebrow or upper eyelid
  • Tenderness and redness indicating infection
  • Allergic reaction with breathing issues and dizziness
  • If you experience any of the above symptoms you should contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Thanks Dr. Q!

Dr. Q has done my lip fillers and wrinkle reduction. Lots of people tell me I’m looking really well but my look is natural so they don’t always guess I’ve had any work done and that’s exactly what I wanted. Dr. Q listens well and therefore provides the look you want. Nice relaxed atmosphere in the clinic. Treatments are painless (I use anaesthetic cream for lip fillers). The clinic is clean and bright. Love my little visits!
