Hyperhidrosis Botox Treatment – Is It Right For You?

botox in glasgow

Perspiring is a normal part of daily life – it’s the body’s way of regulating temperature. However, for some people sweating is a major problem causing distress and embarrassment. This condition is known as primary hyperhidrosis affecting the armpits hands, and feet.

For heavy and severe underarm sweating there are non-invasive options to try such as prescription anti-perspirants and sweat proof clothing but there’s also non-surgical solution called hyperhidrosis Botox treatment – is it right for you? Take a look…

Can Botox prevent excessive sweating?

Botox is a brand of Botulinum Toxin which is perfectly safe administered in minute doses. It works by blocking the signals travelling along the nerves to the sweat glands – significantly reducing the amount of sweat produced by the glands.

When Botox is injected into the skin the treatment acts as a roadblock –stopping the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine – chemical nerve cells make to communicate with each other. This disruption prevents the stimulation to produce sweat.

Each Botox for hyperhidrosis treatment may include several injections concentrated in the affected area – Botox has been approved to treat not only axillary hyperhidrosis (excessively sweaty armpits) but also for plantar (sweaty feet) and palmar (sweaty hands) problems.

After receiving the injections you’ll experience dry armpits, feet, and hands for up to six months depending on your lifestyle – stress and exercise may make the results fade more quickly.

What happens during the process?

Using Botox for sweating will be explained to you during your consultation before treatment – and you need to have removed any armpit hair before your appointment. Your underarms will be thoroughly sterilised with a cleansing solution and a topical numbing cream may be applied if you have any sensitivity or are nervous about the procedure.

You’ll be injected with a very fine needle introducing the Botox to the targeted areas. The process takes about 30-45 minutes as each armpit will need about 15 injections. It can take up to a week for the Botox to take full effect – but results are often noticed sooner.

Are there any side effects?

Although Botox is only injected at the problem site there may be issues with other parts of the body following the procedure. Although these symptoms are rare they may include:

  • Muscle weakness and general tiredness – can cause drowsiness
  • Potential vision difficulties – double vision, dry eyes, and swelling eyelids
  • Allergic reactions – itching, rashes, dizziness, and feeling faint
  • Swallowing and breathing problems – speaking may become difficult
  • Interaction with other medication – be sure to consult your doctor to discuss your options
  • Headaches and neck pain – with flu-like symptoms

Thanks Dr. Q!

Dr. Q has done my lip fillers and wrinkle reduction. Lots of people tell me I’m looking really well but my look is natural so they don’t always guess I’ve had any work done and that’s exactly what I wanted. Dr. Q listens well and therefore provides the look you want. Nice relaxed atmosphere in the clinic. Treatments are painless (I use anaesthetic cream for lip fillers). The clinic is clean and bright. Love my little visits!
