Microneedling For Scars

Micro needling, also known as collagen induction therapy is a non-invasive way to achieve facial rejuvenation. Fine needles create hundreds of tiny invisible puncture wounds in the top layer of the skin, stimulating the body’s natural wound healing process, resulting in increased collagen and elastin production.

Micro needling

It also offers a less invasive and safer treatment for all types of scars as the treatment only targets the deeper layer of the dermis where it starts wound healing that supports new collagen growth. Scars broadly fall into three categories and these are explained below:

Hypertrophic

These are scars with raised formations that are caused by an overproduction of collagen with overgrowth outside the borders of the original scar. They form most often at the sites of cuts and burns.

Contracture

After a second or third degree burn, you may get a contracture scar that tightens as the skin pulls together. These scars can restrict the movement around the injured area.

Atrophic

Commonly associated with acne these scars are flat or recessed indentations in the skin and can involve dark spots and pigmentation issues. The scars have a sunken and pitted appearance.

What causes a surgical scar?

microneedling before-afterThis flesh injury caused by an incision often needs treatment after healing, as they thicken with time. Micro needling for surgical scars is highly recommended as the automated needles penetrate difficult scar tissue dramatically improving the appearance and the elasticity.

Acne scars

Micro-needling with a derma roller for acne scars is also advised as four to six treatments will show an appreciable difference. It’s extremely effective in minimising acne scars by removing scar collagen and replacing it with normal collagen. Scar depressions are improved and the epidermis isn’t damaged.

Micro needling benefits for scars

  • Professional micro needling can be a much safer alternative
  • It can be combined with other high-tech procedures to make it even more effective
  • There’s minimal recovery time following the procedure
  • The process is less expensive than other treatments

Thanks Dr. Q!

Dr. Q has done my lip fillers and wrinkle reduction. Lots of people tell me I’m looking really well but my look is natural so they don’t always guess I’ve had any work done and that’s exactly what I wanted. Dr. Q listens well and therefore provides the look you want. Nice relaxed atmosphere in the clinic. Treatments are painless (I use anaesthetic cream for lip fillers). The clinic is clean and bright. Love my little visits!
